Emotionally Focused Therapy
Emotionally-focused therapy (EFT) is a therapeutic approach based on the premise that emotions are key to identity. According to EFT, emotions are also a guide for individual choice and decision making. This type of therapy assumes that lacking emotional awareness or avoiding unpleasant emotions can cause harm. It may render us unable to use the important information emotions provide.
In this approach to treatment, the therapist and the person in therapy collaborate in an active process. Both are viewed as equal contributors. The person in treatment, not the therapist, is seen as the person most capable of interpreting their emotional experience.
EFT sessions typically center around the development of two key skills. These are:
- Arriving at one's emotions through increased awareness and acceptance.
- Learning to transform emotions and better use the information they provide to avoid negative or harmful behaviors or other effects of certain emotions.
By taking a compassionate, non-judgmental, and reflective approach to listening and questioning it allows the person in therapy come to a better understanding of their emotions. Then, various therapeutic techniques known as emotion coaching are utilized. These help people learn new ways to use healthy emotions to guide their actions. Emotion coaching may further help people transform and move on from challenging emotions.
Gottman for Relationships
The Gottman Method is an approach to therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple's relationship and integrates research-based interventions based on the Sound Relationship House Theory.
The goals of the Gottman Method are to disarm conflicting verbal communication, increase intimacy, respect, and affection, remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy in conflicting situations, and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.
Some of the relationship issues that may be addressed in therapy include:
- Frequent conflict and arguments
- Poor communication
- Emotionally distanced couples on the verge of separation
- Specific problems such as sexual difficulties, infidelity, money, and parenting
Even couples with “normal” levels of conflict may benefit from the Gottman Method. Gottman-trained therapists aim to help couples build stronger relationships overall and healthier ways to cope with issues as they arise in the future.
EMDR for Trauma
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.
It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes.
EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. If the system is blocked or imbalanced by the impact of a disturbing event, the emotional wound festers and can cause intense suffering. Once the block is removed, healing resumes.

I do not file with insurance for Marriage Counseling in or out of network.
If a claim is filed with your insurance, a mental health diagnosis is also submitted based on meeting critera for that diagnosis.

Based on contracted rates with BCBS for co-pay or out-of-pocket deductible. Session time can billed at 30 minutes to 53 minutes per day depending on your plan.
Private Pay Rates:
You may choose how long you would like for your session to be. If you would like to schedule a session longer than 1 hour, morning hours may be available Monday through Friday.
1 hour is $125.
You can also schedule a shorter session, but 1 hour sessions are generally recommended.
30-minute session is $65
45-minute session is $95
